## Naming an Asset

The name of your assets will heavily influence how easy they are to discover on the Marketplace and on search engines, such as Google.

The descriptions of your assets will make them more appealing to purchase as NFTs and can make your assets easier to discover in search engines.

Asset names can help you organise your production process as you track what to create, mint, and use in your Experiences.

When minting assets for the Marketplace, the name can also help creators quickly discover content they want to build with and help players find equipment they want to use in games to level up their play stats.

The asset's description can inspire creators and tell a story to match its visual tone or character, and it can make an asset easier to discover on the internet due to search engine optimisation (SEO).

### Tips for Choosing a Name

Consider what search terms people will use to discover your content and what few key words will make it sound the most interesting. Avoid characters that will cause search and linking issues, and your asset will be more easily discoverable in the Marketplace.

### **Characters and Format**

**Limits:**

3 words\
50 characters

**Recommendations:**

* 40 characters maximum (for potential translations later)
* Begin the first word with a capital letter, and keep the rest lowercase
* Include essential information at the start of the name (Marketplace names cut off at 18 characters)

#### Add Descriptive Words to Improve Search Results

Use descriptive words for your asset, such as: *convertible sports car*, *futuristic police officer*, etc. Avoid giving NPCs names, such as *Bob*, without descriptive words in the name.

#### **Do Not Include Dates**

People rarely search for dates when they are seeking assets.

#### **Limit Use of Numbers**

Numbers are acceptable in the names of robots, gadgets, weapons, etc., but should be avoided because people rarely search for specific numbers. If you do use numbers, add descriptive words to make it easier to find. For example, it's much easier to find *Robot - Paper Recycler Model 18 (PR-18) than PR-18*.

#### **Be Consistent**

Aim for consistent naming for your records and when you can mint assets in the Marketplace for easier asset tracking, especially when making an Experience or an asset collection.

#### **Use English When Possible**

English is one of the world's most dominant languages, as well as the main language in The Sandbox community. It's the easiest and most accurate language to translate from via translation software such as Google Translate.

#### **Special Characters**

You can use special characters like a dash (-) along with numbers in some circumstances.

#### **Avoid Accented Characters**

Accented characters, such as é, è, â, and ô, should be avoided where possible.

Advanced search engines such as Google will usually show results for words with or without accented characters. However, most people looking to buy assets will use The Sandbox Marketplace, where it may be difficult to search using them.

#### **Do Not Use Special Symbols or Emojis**

Special symbols, also known as alt codes, include ♦, ♥, ☺, ♫, ©, and so on. Emotes and emoticons include :grin:, :smiley\_cat:, :pizza:, :flag\_gb:, and so on.

Both make searching for an asset difficult and may also break some third-party URLs/links to your asset on The Sandbox Marketplace.

## Writing an Asset Description

Assets can be given a clear description that will appear on The Sandbox Marketplace. Not only will the description serve as a factor in potential buyer purchasing decisions, but it will also help your ASSET be located when it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO).

### Choosing a Description for Your ASSET

* Descriptions should be in clear English.
* The maximum length of a description is 300 characters, but we recommend a maximum of 260 so there is enough space to translate to languages other than English.&#x20;
* Descriptions should clearly describe assets and be exciting, intriguing, or eye-catching.
* Try to use at least two to three keywords - these are words people are likely to type into search engines. For example, the words Viking, King, Medieval, Magic and Warrior will help people looking for such ASSETs.
* Emojis and special characters (alt codes) should be avoided.
* Avoid numbers and dates if possible. Otherwise, they'll eat up your character limit and will not help with search engine optimisation (SEO).
* Do not put anything like "made by Lisa" in the description. Your name (including a link to your The Sandbox profile to see more of your creations) will automatically show on the asset page separately from the description.
* Do not place URLs/links in descriptions. They will use up your character limit and will not help people find your asset via search engine optimisation (SEO).
