# Storyboard

## A Visual Timeline

A storyboard is a visual timeline of your narrative to use as a reference for your project.

Graphic novels/comics are great examples because they have:

* Strong emphasis on visuals to help tell the story
* Small snippets of dialogue to engage and inform due to similar limitations to game design
* A simple flow of events done in panels

**Examples:**

### Storyboarding Tools

To make your own storyboard, include only key events to get a rough timeline. The [**game loops**](https://docs.sandbox.game/en/creator/game-maker/creative-guides/experience-design-techniques/game-design/game-loops-and-decisions) you have planned should help keep your storyboard focused.
