The Animator is used to create Compound or Animated Entities, which are types of Assets used in The Sandbox.
If voxels are the atoms that make up everything in The Sandbox and Blocks are the terrain, Entities are the physical objects in the world.
Compound and Animated Entities have more complex structures that can be broken down depending on how you want pieces to move or be positioned.
The artist who creates an Entity decides its scale, colours (including emissive), and its Attributes, which indicate how rare it is and how it can vary standard gameplay.
Level designers place Entities in the world as individual custimisable Objects and apply plug and play logic for interactive play. They set each unique Object's visibility, collisions, and gravity settings (whether the Entity is anchored in place or movable with a simple physics system).
Creating a Compound Entity in the Animator is as simple as building a Rig. To build a Rig, you must create a hierarchy of Nodes in the Skeleton Panel. See Rig: Animator Skeleton & Viewport for details.
The Skeleton Panel's hierarchy establishes parent/child relationships for each Node. If a Parent Node is moved while editing the Rig or to create Motion Keyframes for an Animation, any Child Node under it will follow. To give the Rig substance, a Model created in the Modeler is linked to each Node and positioned based on its pivot point. The Animator is seamlessly integrated with the モデラー to make editing easier.
To make it an Animated Entity, add Motion Keyframes to one or more of the Entity's Animations.
To add Motion Keyframes, select an Animation you want to modify (or create a new one). Then select a Node to move and position the Play Head in the Motion: Animator Timeline Panel to the desired time when the movement should end. Use the position and rotation buttons in the Animator Top Bar (toolbar) to adjust the Node's location and press SPACEBAR to test the motion. You can make many adjustments and customisations to the motion you create.
Once your model is ready, you can upload it to your Workspace, create details to describe it, and give it attributes to define how it will be uniquely useful in The Sandbox Game. Then it's ready to test in Game Maker!
Attributes are applied when you Upload to my Workspace.
