The Sandbox Game became a blockchain-based creative platform to empower people with true ownership of what they purchase and create.
You wonβt be able to make transactions, claim rewards, or own what you create in The Sandbox until you connect a cryptocurrency wallet to your account.
You can connect a wallet anytime in your Profile on The Sandbox Dashboard.
What are Web2 and Web3?
What is Web2?
In the Web2 internet, you trust organisations to collect, store, and encrypt your personal data and allow them to communicate it with each other to verify digital purchases. Most often, such purchases can not be used outside of their ecosystems, traded, sold, etc. This centralised information management model has sometimes led to identity theft when trusted companies failed to keep their customers' personal information secure.
What is Web3?
Web3 is the next generation of the internet. It's a decentralised model using blockchain technology to make information more secure, efficiently "machine readable," and automatically transacted via smart contracts. It is referred to as a "trustless" system, because rather than trust your information to third parties, you control it completely.
Every transaction of information on the blockchain creates a redundant, publicly visible record without revealing your personal information. Transactions are direct (peer-to-peer) and extremely difficult to alter. You decide exactly what software across the internet may read and use your digitally owned data, what purchases, sales, and trades you wish to make, and what level of security you prefer (software or hardware wallet) to contain a ledger of your transactions. You are the true owner of your content, and can integrate it with the internet like never before!
Since Web3 is an emerging technology, many people will try to take advantage of those learning to use it. We highly recommend reviewing our Security Topics for more information on protecting your account and your wallet.
What is a cryptocurrency wallet?
A cryptocurrency wallet stores public and private keys needed to provide digital signatures to make transactions. It can be used to buy, sell, send, and receive non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, (such as LAND, assets, and Catalysts) or fungible tokens (such as SAND, ETH, MATIC, and other cryptocurrencies).
In addition to allowing for secure, efficient transactions, a wallet allows you to interact with blockchain integrated technologies.
Why should I connect a cryptocurrency wallet to my Sandbox account?
A cryptocurrency wallet provides you with true ownership of everything that you create, purchase, earn or win that is integrated with The Sandbox Game. You will always have control and access to these virtual goods as long as you remain in control of your wallet.
Connecting a wallet to your account is optional, but provides many benefits.
Securely keep track of any transactions related to your Sandbox account.
Store your Sandbox ERC-20 tokens, such as SAND purchased or gained from The Sandbox Gameβs Play & Earn feature.
Store virtual goods that you own (ERC-1155), such as LAND and ASSETs.
