FAQs: Gameplay
What types of games are available in The Sandbox?
The Game Maker is currently ideal for making Adventure Platformer games, but creators have made puzzles, galleries, first-person horror, board and card games, tower defense, farming sims, and so much more! The Game Maker software is also regularly being updated with new features, providing more and more gaming possibilities.
Can I adjust the speed of the players or the jump height in games that I make?
Yes! But not if you are letting them use their own avatar (the default setting). By changing the settings on the player spawning object you can select a custom avatar. It can be a human, monster, car, tree, anything you want! Then options unlock in the avatar input configuration. Change attack damage, walk/run speed, jump height, and more! Just watch out, max jump height can actually cause fall damage depending on your settings.
Is there any moderation in games?
The Sandbox employs a variety of tools to moderate across all of its systems. If you see offensive or suspicious behavior in the game chat, you can click the offending message to see the player's mini profile, then click their profile picture to open their profile in your default browser. Next to the big Follow button is a three dot menu where you will see an option to report. You will find similar report options when looking at experiences and marketplace asset pages.
Can fire spread from one object to another?
This could potentially be a complex mechanic to set up, but yes! There is no simple "fire" behavior you can unleash in an experience. You would need to create a combination of VFX, damage messages, and triggers to simulate a fire spreading. The best combination of features will depend on the way your game is set up. We figured out a way to make this work live on The Sandbox Stream!
What engine does the Game Maker and games run on?
The software is built using Unity.
Can two or more people build a game together?
You can collaborate with another game designer and/or an ASSET designer. But only one person can edit the experience at a time. If you are working with people you trust, you can share an account to work on an experience in turns and upload from VoxEdit. Only the person with access to the crypto wallet will be able to buy and sell (NEVER SHARE YOUR SECRET CRYPTO KEYS). However anyone with access to the account can delete or transfer uploaded assets and saved experiences, so be careful who you share accounts with. If you want to work with someone and don't know them well enough to share an account, you can always transfer unminted assets and experiences back and forth to each other for your collaboration.
